Providence College freshman Kris Dunn has been cleared to play against Colgate on Tuesday.

His collegiate debut is the final step in Dunn's recovery from shoulder surgery in July. He sat out the first nine games this season.

Last Thursday John Seldon, Dunn's father, told The Day that his son would be ready to play against Colgate. Tuesday's home game starts at 7 p.m. at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

The Friars are promoting Dunn's first appearance, sending out an email to fans with a message from the McDonald's All-American guard out of New London High School.

Here's the message:

"You cheered me on in High School and now I am finally able to play my first College game. ... I am very proud of what my team has accomplished so far this season and can't wait to be a part of that continued success on the court. We are building a Championship Program and we need you at the Dunk this season.

"It is a short easy drive up I-95 to Providence. We promise to make it worth the trip. Get a three-game package or individual tickets, either way it would be great to see you at the Dunk.

Dunn will join a short-handed Providence team that is off to a 7-2 overall start.

As a senior at New London, Dunn earned all-state honors, averaging 31.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Two different recruiting services listed Dunn as the No. 1-ranked point guard in the country.
