STATE TO RESTORE BOAT RAMP IN GROTON

Groton - The Army Corps of Engineers announced this week that the State Parks and Public Outreach Division of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a permit to expand and restore a public boat ramp in Pine Island Bay at Bayberry Lane.

The proposed work would widen the original boat ramp to allow two lanes of boat traffic and add two floating docks for fishermen and a ramp for canoes and kayaks to be loaded into the water from cars. Seven parking spots would be added to the 30 existing spots.

The work would impact 0.2 acres of fish habitats, but the Corps said a preliminary review of the proposal showed there would not be a substantial adverse reaction to fish.

Public comments on the permit review are being accepted until Oct. 7 and should be forwarded to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England Division, Regulatory Division (attn: Barbara Newman) at 696 Virginia Road, Concord, MA 01742.
