North Haven Hosts Regional Energy Workshop

    On December 3

    rd

The Clean Energy Task Force of North Haven hosted a landmark regional meeting and workshop in the Community Room of the Library sponsored in part by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) and its Clean Energy Communities program.

The Clean Energy Communities Program is committed to helping Connecticut communities achieve greater energy independence and lower utility costs through an innovative program to implement clean energy measures supported by residents, businesses, and local government. (See www.ctcleanenergy.com/communities/ for more information).

The North Haven Clean Energy Task Force is made up of residents who are appointed by the First Selectman and volunteer their time and expertise. The Task Force has successfully raised awareness in North Haven about clean energy as well as energy efficiency and savings programs. Furthermore, the North Haven Clean Energy Task Force is responsible for signing up more than 400 residents for the Clean Energy Options via their local utility provider, which resulted in the installation of solar panels on the roof of the High School this fall and significant subsequent energy savings for the Town.

The December Clean Energy Communities Workshop was attended by 25 members of 8 Clean Energy Community task forces and commissions from regional communities, including representatives from North Haven, Wallingford, Hamden, Guilford, Madison, Bethany, Woodbridge, and West Haven as well as by representatives from the Clean Water Action/Clean Water Fund and the Southern Connecticut Region of Governors (SCRCOG).  Public health workers, conservation commission members, faith-based environmental advocates, energy experts, business leaders, homeowners, and citizen activists joined together to exchange ideas about outreach, communication, education, incentives, and anticipated changes in the state program.

The regional event was heralded by Kenny Foscue, Coordinator of the  Clean Energy Communities Workshop, as a resounding success and a model for future regional workshops.

The North Haven Clean Energy Task Force is looking for potential new members and other residents available to volunteer to help to promote this valuable and effective community program.

North Haven residents and business owners interested in more information are encouraged to visit the North Haven Clean Energy Task Force link on the Town of North Haven’s website (www.town.north-haven.ct.us/Government/CleanEnergyTaskForce.asp) or call Hugh Davis, Chairman of the Task Force, at 203-248-6685.
