Companies agree to settle EPA claims

Groton — Two companies that own townhouses leased to families at the Naval Submarine Base have agree to pay a fine of $89,300 to settle Environmental Protection Agency claims that they violated federal lead paint disclosure laws, the EPA announced Tuesday.

The EPA said the violations occurred at three properties at the sub base and 10 at the companies’ rental properties at the Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. The EPA said the companies, Northeast Housing LLC and Balfour Beatty Military Housing Management LLC, did not follow requirements to disclose all records and reports regarding lead-based paint in the homes to families leasing the properties.

The violations occurred between 2007 and 2010.
