Man Pleads No Contest in Fatal Boat Crash

A man accused of drunken boating in an accident that killed a passenger in Guilford in 2009 has pleaded no contest to manslaughter and other charges and agreed to serve 3½ years in prison.

The New Haven Register reports that 27-year-old Arthur King Hall of Guilford entered the pleas Tuesday in New Haven Superior Court, and sentencing was set for July 2. Hall has been detained the past year because of two misdemeanor arrests since the crash.

Police said Hall's blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit when he crashed a Boston Whaler with three other people aboard into a seawall on Sept. 3, 2009. The accident killed 24-year-old Jonathan Cook and seriously wounded Devon Hardy, who's now 24.

Hall apologized to the victims' mothers in court Tuesday.
