Stonington tax assessor wins award
Stonington — Tax Assessor Marsha Standish received the Sherry Vermilya award at the annual Northeast Regional Association of Assessing Officers Conference last month in South Yarmouth, Mass.
Standish was nominated by the Connecticut Association of Assessing Officers as the state's most deserving candidate this year. The award is in honor of the late Vermilya who worked to support the group's principles and assisted other assessors around the country.
Standish has been the town assessor since 1996 and before that she worked for the state overseeing the statutory functions of assessors' offices.
She was an instructor at the annual assessors school at UConn from 1987-1999, and continues to be a moderator for the workshops at the annual school. She has won numerous awards and has served in numerous roles in state and international assessing organizations.
