    East Lyme voters OK budget

East Lyme – Residents have approved the $62.2 million town budget, with 740 votes cast in favor of the budget and 237 votes against, according to Selectman Kevin Seery.

The referendum was held from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Community Center.

The budget is a 1.41 percent increase over the current spending plan. The total includes a $21 million general government budget and a $41.2 million school budget.

The Board of Finance will set the tax rate, which is expected to increase by 0.5 mills to 22.7 mills when taking into account the 2011 revaluation, according to finance board Chairman Raymond Hart, at its next meeting.
