Class Reunion Creates $7,500 Gift to Griswold High School

Griswold — The Griswold High School Class of 1961 recently held its 50th year class reunion. During the event, Norman Gileau, past principal of GHS, made an initial donation to the school on behalf of the Class of 1961.

Following the reunion, class graduate Arlene Bryant, returned to her home in Washington state and proceeded to electronically contact her classmates and invite them to participate in a fundraiser for Griswold High School based on Mr. Gileau’s initial generosity. It was determined at that time the money would be donated to the Music & Arts Department at the high school.

Over the next three months, some fifty members of the class donated $7,500 for this worthy cause. In late April 2012, Midge Cyr, Treasurer, presented the money to The Griswold High Arts and Music Group. It was determined that the money would be used to purchase a new electronic mini-grand piano.

The money generated through this fundraiser and a generous education discount by Caruso Music in New London enabled the purchase to be consummated. The mini grand piano was recently delivered and can now be used for musical and arts events associated with the high school.
