    Gov. Malloy to attend tourism luncheon

    Norwich – Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is expected to attend the Cultural and Tourism luncheon next Friday, June 15 at the Holiday Inn as part of the city's three-day Freedom Bell weekend celebration.

    Malloy is honorary chairman of the city's Emancipation Proclamation Commemoration Committee, which is sponsoring three days of activities, including the first port visit to Norwich by the replica 19th century schooner Amistad in Norwich Harbor, the casting of a 155-pound Emancipation Proclamation bell at Howard T. Brown Memorial Park and a Civil War re-enactment encampment at the Norwichtown Green.

    The Heritage and Tourism luncheon will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 15 and will feature guest speaker Christopher "Kip" Bergstrom, deputy commissioner of the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

    Tickets for the luncheon are $50 per person. Reservations are due by Friday, June 8. Call the city historian's office at (860) 859-8349 for reservations.
