Stolen vehicle involved in accident in Ledyard

Ledyard — Police responded to an accident involving a stolen vehicle this morning.

At 8:45 a.m., police learned of a two-car accident on Whalehead Road near the intersection with Sandy Hollow Road. One of the vehicles had fled the scene.

The Ledyard Fire Department also responded due to a fluid spill. The driver at the scene, Tammy Donovan, 45, of 34 Pheasant Run Drive, Gales Ferry, was not injured and neither was her passenger, police said.

The second vehicle was found half a mile into the woods off the end of Fawn Drive but the driver was not there. A Ledyard police dog followed a trail into the Groton Reservoir property and out onto Sandy Hollow Road.

The vehicle that evaded the accident had been stolen from a home on Iron Street, police said. The incident is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the department at 860-464-6400.
