    Ledyard merges planning, zoning commissions

Ledyard — The Town Council voted Wednesday night to combine the Planning and Zoning commissions.

Mayor John Rodolico said all but four towns in southeastern Connecticut have merged Planning and Zoning commissions, and the town of Ledyard was eager to become part of the majority.

“We’ve been trying to do this for many years,” he said.

Rodolico said simplifying the bureaucracy of the planning and zoning processes will ultimately help attract businesses to the town.

“We feel it will be more advantageous for economic development,” he said. “You essentially will have one board now. It reduces the number of steps someone needs to go through to do any development in town.”
