Meetings on Norwich police station proposal tonight, Saturday

Norwich — Two more public informational sessions will be held this week on the proposed $33.4 million downtown police station prior to the City Council public hearing and vote Monday to place the item on the November ballot for referendum.

The meetings will be held tonight at 7:30 at the Kelly Middle School on Mahan Drive and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall at 47 S. Second Ave., Taftville.

During the sessions, police and city leaders will describe the plan to renovate the former Sears building at 2-6 Cliff St. and use several surrounding parking lots for the project. A three-story parking garage with 75 ground floor public spaces is planned for the city-owned parking lot on Cliff St.

A question and answer session will follow the presentations.

On Monday, the City Council will hold a public hearing at its 7:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall on the proposed ordinance to bond the money for the project. The council is expected to vote on whether to place the item on the Nov. 6 election ballot.
