New London — Construction at the city's Nathan Hale School means Republican and Democratic primary voters in the third voting district will cast their ballots Tuesday at Ocean Beach Park, but they won't have to pay to park.

At this time of year, the usual access to Ocean Beach is through the main gate, where visitors pay to enter. To avoid any voter having to pay, the park will open another gate, the one closest to the polling place in the main building.

Republican Registrar of Voters Barbara Major said voters are asked to follow these directions: From Ocean Avenue turn right onto Neptune Avenue and then left onto Park Street. Take an immediate right into the beach parking lot, where voters may park for free.

Although the entrance to the building is handicapped accessible, Major said, some voters may find it difficult to walk up the incline to the door. She said attendants will be available to assist voters and that officials will offer curbside voting to anyone who needs it.

The Republican primary offers a choice of either Linda McMahon and Christopher Shays for Senate candidate and a choice for the 2nd District congressional seat of either Paul Formica or Daria Novak. It is open only to anyone registered as a Republican.

The Democratic primary features the choice of Senate candidate between Susan Bysiewicz or Chris Murphy. Only registered Democrats may vote. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
