MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) — Workers at the Mystic Seaport are set to vote on whether to be represented by a union.

More than 200 workers are scheduled to cast ballots Friday in a vote supervised by the National Labor Relations Board. Workers say they want more of a say in how the Connecticut tourist attraction is run.

Management of the 83-year-old Seaport, which celebrates New England's maritime past, is fighting the union drive by AFT Connecticut, an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers.

To cope with the Great Recession, Mystic Seaport cut its budget by $3 million, partly through a 10 percent staff cut in two rounds of layoffs in 2008 and 2009. Employees now number about 350, including 100 supervisors.

The Seaport also closed for six weeks in the winter to save money.
