N.Y.man charged with passing fake bills at Mohegan Sun

Mohegan — State police charged a 52-year-old Queens, N.Y., man with forgery and criminal attempt to commit fifth-degree larceny Friday night after they say he used counterfeit bills while gambling at the Mohegan Sun casino.

Jean Baptiste was also charged with interfering with a police officer and criminal impersonation after police said he initially gave them an alias.

Police said Mohegan Sun security employees contacted them to say Baptiste, who they had identified in two earlier incidents involving counterfeit $10 and $50 bills, was now on a security camera using a $50 bill that had serial numbers consistent with the earlier incidents. The incident occurred a 11:15 p.m.

Baptiste was taken to state police who found he was in possession of 18 fake $50 bills and 41 counterfeit $10 bills. He was being held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Tuesday.
