    Learn the ABCs of BHS

Parents of Branford High School (BHS) students can learn the ABCs of BHS by attending Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school at 185 East Main Street, Students are also welcome to attend with their parents.

During Back-to-School Night, parents can pick up a copy of their student's new schedule and have it interpreted for them by members of the BHS Guidance team. The team and assisting students will be at tables set up in the heart of the school, the Student Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Student guides will be on hand to help parents find their way around BHS and to classrooms, where they can meet with their child's teachers.

"This is a great opportunity for you to learn about the expectations your student's teachers have for their courses," said BHS Principal Lee Panagoulias, Jr., in a district-released Alert Now message to parents on Aug. 29.

"Each teacher will be handing out a course description that identifies the key topics to be covered in the course, the skills and content they expect the students to develop while in that class, as well as what they expect of the students in terms of the quality of their work and behavior," he noted.

Parents with more than one child attending BHS, or those who cannot otherwise visit all of their child's teachers on Back-to-School Night, can ask teachers to send them a course description or make an appointment for a one-on-one meeting at a later date.

"While the teacher will describe their expectations for the course, if you want to talk to any or all of your teachers about your student, then you should make an appointment with those teachers. Your student's guidance counselor can help set up those meetings, so you might give your counselor a call," said Panagoulias.
