Preston selectmen to interview recreation director applicants

Preston – The Board of Selectmen will interview three top candidates next week for the part-time recreation director position.

Selectmen will interview candidates Wednesday and Thursday and could make a decision as early as Thursday’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

Current Recreation Director Gail Rigney will retire from the position as of Oct. 1. Her last day is expected to be Sept. 21, however, with accumulated vacation time to cover the final week.

Selectmen will rate the candidates on weighted criteria, with 15 percent assigned to educational qualifications, 20 percent for relevant experience, 20 percent for supervisory experience, 20 percent for communication skills, 15 percent for accounting skills, 5 percent for the candidate’s “vision” for the department and 5 percent for either being a Preston resident or a veteran.

The Parks and Recreation Commission received four applications, two from Preston residents and two from Ledyard residents.

The position pays between $22,000 and $25,000.
