Ledyard hearing to focus on possible closing of Lambtown Road Extension

Ledyard – The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the potential closure or partial closure of Lambtown Road Extension Thursday evening.

The road extension, owned by the town, is a narrow, gravel road off Lambtown Road that borders Groton. Planning Commission Chairman Mike Cherry said at issue is whether the road can be maintained as both scenic and safe for travel, and whether the cost of that maintenance is feasible for the town.

Cherry said Mayor John Rodolico will propose a seasonal closure of the extension that would keep it open in the summer months and closed in the winter months. But the commission will wait to hear from the public before choosing from a number of options, which include closing the road entirely to vehicle traffic.

The public hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex on Colonel Ledyard Highway.
