The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning from 1 p.m. today through 4 a.m. Thursday.

Tim Morrin, a meteorologist for the weather service, said the highest winds are expected later this afternoon. He said wind speeds will reach 30 to 40 mph with gusts reaching 60 mph.

"The highest winds will come later this afternoon," said Morrin. The worst of it will be over by daybreak. Unfortunately, this is occurring right after Sandy, which will impede recovery and repair," he said.

Coastal towns could expect about a half inch of rain. Inland towns in Hartford and Litchfield counties should see about 1 to 3 inches of snow.

The weather service has also issued a coastal flood warning from 2 p.m. today through 7 a.m. Thursday.

He said during high tide, which is expected around 3:40 p.m. today, storm surges could reach between 3 to 4 feet.
