Holiday Baskets Headed to Good Homes

Twins Colleen and Meghan Hovan pick up plates of cookies to add to the holiday food bags they delivered to Madison families. The three year-old twins were accompanying their mother.

Dec. 16 and 17 were busy days at the Surf Club. With the help of many, Madison Community Services prepared and distributed holiday baskets to 37 Madison families as well as the homes of 57 seniors and single residents.

On Dec. 16, approximately 20 middle school and high school students led by Tom Tung and accompanied by several parents spent the afternoon at the Surf Club packing the holiday baskets, which are actually large paper shopping bags. The morning of Dec. 17, the Madison Police Department delivered 55 frozen turkeys to the Surf Club and distributed them to shopping bags as another corps of volunteers picked up the bags, piled them in their cars, and headed out to deliver them, all under the well-organized direction of Margaret Diglio. Deliveries to the 37 families are completed in the mornings while children are at school. Deliveries to seniors and singles are completed in the afternoon.

Madison Police Commander John Rich, left, Sgt. Bill Roy, and Officer Rich Buchetto delivered 55 frozen turkeys that were added to food bags and sent off to Madison families.
