Ledyard police officer arrested after altercation at his home

Preston — A Ledyard police officer was arrested Monday afternoon following an altercation at his Preston home.

After the 5:30 p.m. incident, state police charged James Grzesiak, 48, with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

State police said Grzesiak became involved in a fight with Joshua M. Thibeault, 18, who listed the same address as Grzesiak.

Police, including the Preston resident state trooper and troopers from the Montville barracks, investigated the incident and charged Thibeault with disorderly conduct.

State police did not describe the relationship between the two men.

Grzesiak was released on a $2,500 bond, while Thibeault posted a $500 bond and was released.

Both men are scheduled to appear today in Norwich Superior Court.

Grzesiak was charged with disorderly conduct in October 2012 in connection with an August 2012 incident.

According to state judicial department records, Grzesiak was charged by state police at Troop F.

He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on that charge Wednesday in New London Superior Court.

Ledyard police could not immediately be contacted late Monday to learn Grzesiak's status with the department.
