    Wheeler students quiz Courtney

North Stonington – U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney paid a visit to Wheeler Middle and High School students Friday morning for a short question-and-answer session and tour of the school.

The second congressional district representative fielded questions from about 50 Wheeler students in the school’s media center. The students, picked by teachers across all grades for their interest in government and politics, covered a range of topics, from dealing with gridlock in Congress to the 16th amendment to gun control laws.

“Typically he gets questions like, ‘How much do you make?’ and, ‘When are you going to allow people to smoke marijuana?’” said Principal Chris Sandford, who said both he and the congressman were impressed with the students’ awareness.
