Old Lyme proposed budget increases slightly

Old Lyme — The total proposed budget for next year is $32,853,111, or a .75 percent increase over the current spending plan.

The mill rate is expected to be 19.3, about a .2 percent increase over the current rate.

The Board of Finance is proposing a general-government budget of $7,865,552, representing a 2.96 percent increase over this year. Capital is set for $673,176 or a 0.41 percent rise. Debt service will be $343,813, or 1.43 percent less than this year.

Meanwhile, the town’s share of the $31,741,789 Lyme - Old Lyme regional school district’s budget is $24,314,383. The amount is based on both Oct. 1 and April 1 enrollment data and is slightly lower than the earlier calculation of $24,395,961 that estimated April’s enrollment using March data. The decrease for Old Lyme is due to changes in student enrollment between the two towns.

The school district will hold its annual budget meeting 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6 at the Middle School auditorium. In Old Lyme, the school budget vote will occur between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at the Cross Lane Fire House.

The town’s annual meeting on the budget is 7:30 p.m. May 20 at the Middle School. The Board of Finance will hold a meeting afterwards to set the mill rate.
