Bethsaida to give report Monday in Norwich on how it has helped homeless women
Norwich — At the halfway point in Bethsaida Inc.'s award-winning five-year federally funded program to provide services to homeless women throughout New London County, the agency will give a public presentation Monday outlining the program's accomplishments and goals.
In 2010, Bethsaida received a grant of $350,000 per year for five years to help homeless women in southeastern Connecticut obtain housing, jobs, mental health and substance abuse treatment and other services. The program, Homeless Women Deserve Treatment, has received more than 526 referrals of women in need since the program started.
Agency leaders and women participating in the program will speak at the 2:30 p.m. program "Homeless Women in Southeastern Connecticut, Highlights of the HWDT Program," at the St. Vincent de Paul Place soup kitchen, 120 Cliff St., Norwich. Speakers will discuss the trends, obstacles and successes in working with homeless women in the region.
U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, is expected to attend.
The program is open to the public.
