Salem — The Democratic Town Committee announced its nominations for the town's open positions in the Nov. 5 election following its caucus Wednesday evening.

Democrats nominated incumbent Kevin Lyden for first selectman. Lyden, who is unaffiliated, was nominated by both major parties in the last two elections. He is a former businessman who was raised in Salem and is currently finishing his second term as first selectman.

For the Board of Selectmen, which has staggered terms, the Democrats also nominated incumbents Bob Ross and Robyn McKenney.

Diane Weston was nominated for town clerk and Pam Henry was nominated for town treasurer. Cheryl Philopena was nominated for tax collector.

Chris Bennet was nominated for the Board of Finance. The terms of two Board of Finance members — Chairman William Weinschenker and Gregory Preston — end this year. John Houchin was nominated as an alternate for that board.

Teri Natoli and Sam Rindell, two newcomers, were nominated for the Board of Education. They would be running for the positions currently filled by Stephen Buck, the chairman, and Linda Robson, the treasurer.

The Democrats also nominated Frank Abetti for the Board of Assessment Appeals, Ruth Savalle and Gloria Fogarty for the Planning and Zoning Commission, and Kate Bellandese and Becky Nortz for the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Peter Sielman and Alfreda Shapere were nominated as alternates for the Planning and Zoning Commission, while Ed Natoli, Jim Fogarty and Shirley Diamond were nominated as alternates for the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Carol Traggis and Anne Rowthorn were nominated for library Board of Directors.
