Norwich – Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will meet with several dozen city, police, education and state officials Wednesday morning at Norwich City Hall to discuss urban violence and community policing issues.

The 10 a.m. meeting in Council Chambers will be open to the public, but Mayor Peter Nystrom said the discussion will be among the "invited guests" and the governor. Nystrom said 51 of the 60 invited guests have confirmed they plan to attend.

Guests including 12 representatives from the city police department, representatives from Human Services, fire and emergency management officials, members of the City Council and Board of Education, the Greater Norwich Anti-Bullying Coalition, members of the Greeneville Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Committee and the state adult probation office located at City Hall.

Nystrom said Malloy asked for the meeting in Norwich as part of his tour throughout the state to discuss urban violence and policing. He said the governor asked for "a frank and open discussion" on the issues.

Nystrom said he welcomed the governor's request and saw it as a recognition of Norwich's renewed efforts to increase police staffing and reinstate community policing.

Malloy has held similar meetings in Hartford, Bridgeport and New Haven.
