City Council approves contract with Public Works supervisors

Norwich – The City Council Monday unanimously approved a new three-year contract with the Public Works Department supervisors' union that calls for annual 2 percent raises for three years.

The contract with the AFSCME Local 818 Council 4 covers five Public Works supervisors and contains similar provisions as do other contracts recently approved by the City Council with city unions, Human Resources Director Brigid Marks said. The contract runs from July 1 of this year through June 30, 2016.

The contract cuts the number of sick days from 100 to 50 and calls for new employees hired after July 1 to receive no retirement health benefits.

The contract changes and raises will cost the city $10,000 in the first year, $7,100 in the second year and $8,000 in the third year, Marks said.
