Master Gardeners host Fall Garden Day Sept. 8

Norwich - UConn Master Gardeners will host the third annual Fall Garden Day from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the New London County Extension Center, 562 New London Turnpike.

The event will include free soil pH tests, short walks and talks on rain gardens, pollination gardens, native plants, invasives, living fences and other topics. There will also be exhibits on beekeeping, butterflies and composting. UConn master gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions and provide printed information. Perennial plants, fall vegetables, and seed for a winter soil cover crop will be available for purchase.

East Lyme farmer Tom Kalal will display an observational beehive and talk about beekeeping. Attendees may learn about monarch butterfly migration and tree tagging from Richard Chyinski, a member of Connecticut Butterfly Association. They also may visit healthy soils exhibits, talk to UConn master composters and see plots of winter cover crops. To have soil pH tested, bring a bag with 1 cup of soil.

Admission is free. For information, call (860) 885-2823 or send an email to: susan.munger@uconn.edu.
