Burst pipe sends water into Crocker House lobby, adajcent storefront

New London — A burst pipe sent water gushing into the lobby of the Crocker House on State Street this afternoon causing minor flooding.

The pipe, which is part of the building's sprinkler system, burst in the ceiling of 184 State St., a vacant storefront next to the Crocker House entrance.

“We shut off the water to the sprinkler system for the whole building and now the building maintenance is going to get their sprinkler contractor here to repair the pipe,” Fire Department Battalion Chief Edward Sargent said at the scene. “Fortunately, it didn't do too much damage.”

Sargent said no Crocker House residents will be displaced because of the issue.

During the last several days of cold weather, fire fighters have responded to “a few” similar calls each shift, Sargent said.
