Search for missing Waterford puppy continues

    Ruby

Waterford — The search for Ruby continues.

The brown Bull Terrier has been missing since Saturday when she, along with her sister, Maggie, a pit bull mix, ran through an electric fence and escaped their owners' Comstock Avenue home.

Maggie was found the next day, but concern for the 9-month-old pup is on the rise since temperatures in the last few days have dipped to below freezing.

Becky Maurice, owner of All Bright Canines in Oakdale, where Ruby goes to daycare, said Ruby's owners, Charles and Jackie Kammer, are "just beside themselves."

"The temperature is the biggest concern," said Maurice. "We are not sure if she has found a warm space to stay."

Maurice said the Kammers paid for a dog tracker to search for the dog. The tracker on Wednesday found a fresh trail of Ruby in the area of Upper Bartlett Road and Scotch Cap Road.

Maurice said the Kammers and volunteers have been searching every day for hours to find the dog. She said dozens of people have shared Ruby's picture through Facebook and printed flyers.

Ruby's breed was made famous in the late 1980s by the fictional character Spuds MacKenzie, which was featured in numerous Bud Light commercials.

"The breed is not common," said Maurice. "She's a valuable dog so there is that concern that someone may have taken her. She is microchipped and spayed, which does make her a little less valuable."

Last year, the Kammers lost another Bull Terrier to cancer and got Ruby because they loved the breed so much, Maurice said.

Anyone who has seen Ruby may contact Maurice at (860) 490-2273.
