The state will not prosecute a Jewett City woman who was accused of hiding the bloody knife that Jeffrey Savoy used to fatally stab his brother on Sept. 4, 2012 and the pants that Savoy wore during the deadly altercation.

Savoy, 24, was sentenced Friday in New London Superior Court to 11 years in prison followed by eight years of special parole for first-degree manslaughter. He had pleaded guilty to killing his 27-year-old brother, John Coddington, after they fought about Coddington’s treatment of his children.

On Monday, prosecutor David J. Smith entered a “nolle,” or said he would not prosecute Chriss Santana, 28, a friend of Savoy who had been charged with hindering prosecution. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Savoy went to Santana’s apartment on Mechanic Ave. after stabbing his brother in the neck, cleaned the knife he used with peroxide and changed out of his blood-stained pants. Santana put the items into bags and threw them over the fence behind her apartment.

Savoy was taken into custody at short time later at his sister’s nearby home.
