Norwich Republicans endorse Foley for governor and host fundraiser

Norwich – Calling him “clearly the strongest candidate” running for governor this year, the Republican Town Committee tonight nearly unanimously endorsed Tom Foley as the Republican candidate for governor.

The vote came on the eve of a fundraiser meet-and-greet to be held from 6 to 8 Thursday at the Harp & Dragon Irish Pub at 130 Main St.

Committee members briefly discussed Foley’s strengths, noting that he came very close to winning the election in November 2010, and he is the best known of the Republicans who have announced plans to seek the nomination.

Republican Alderman William Nash said Foley already has shown interest in Norwich by contacting him and other Republican officials to ask about major issues and the city’s needs.

“He is clearly the strongest candidate,” former Mayor Peter Nystrom said.
