New London to lay out road repair plans in meeting Tuesday

New London — The city’s Public Works Department will hold a community meeting Tuesday to discuss road improvements scheduled for several city streets this summer.

The roadways slated for improvement are: Belden Court, Belden Street, Buell Place, Colver Street, Farnsworth Street, Fuller Street, Gallows Lane, Lincoln Avenue, Lyman Court, Marshall Place, Oneco Avenue, West Pleasant Street, the stairs/sidewalk between Colver Street and Jefferson Avenue, and various sections of sidewalk along Route 32, adjacent to the Coast Guard Academy.

The work will involve paving the roadways, removing some older, damaged trees, installing new stone curbing, storm drainage improvements, and replacement of all damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons. The city is also committed to replacing any trees it removes.

At Tuesday’s meeting, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room on the first floor of 111 Union St., city officials will explain their plan and lay out some of the timetable for completion. The work is expected to begin in June.
