    Preserve Purchase Update

So the proposed purchase of The Preserve by the state and Town of Old Saybrook is still on, but, according to First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Jr., the town-wide vote may be slightly delayed.

"TPL [The Trust for Public Land], the state, and the town are all in agreement on The Preserve purchase, and we're deciding now when the timing may be right to bring the deal to the voters," said Fortuna.

"We're now working out the details of the structure of the deal. All parties are in full agreement that when the timing is right, we will bring this before the voters. We're still hopeful for a referendum vote before the end of June, but that date may slip," said Fortuna.

Last month, after a public hearing before the Board of Finance (BOF), the BOF voted unanimously to move forward to the voters a $3 million appropriation towards purchase of the 930 acres known as the Preserve.
