    Gratitude Trail Back on Display

An Old Lyme woman's "Gratitude Trail" will be back on display at Hammonasset Beach State Park by Tuesday, July 1.

Anne Kubitsky is in charge of a grassroots campaign that collects and shares gratitude in as many public places as possible. But her Gratitude Trail was recently shut down at Hammonasset after several complaints were made that the signage promotes businesses that sponsor the trail.

State Senator Ed Meyer intervened with the state on Kubitsky's behalf and brokered a deal to re-open the display. That deal involves Kubitsky's getting a special permit for the display and pulling the signage that promotes businesses.

The trail is part of a campaign that collects and shares stories of gratitude-for everything from environmental causes to beating alcoholism-in as many public spaces as possible.

Kubitsky said the display, once it returns, will be up through Sept. 5.

"I am very grateful to Senator Meyer as well as the public for rooting for this project," she said. "We had to downsize the display by about 30 signs (as I originally had 130) as well as to move the display to another area of the park, but I am happy to see it back up.

"The trail was designed specifically for the boardwalk at Hammonasset so we are doing our best to work with the new location at the Middle Beach Bath Pavilion," Kubitsky said. "The display will be around the perimeter of the pavilion, which I think is a really great alternative."
