Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-Stonington, who was injured in a fall at his Stonington home early Monday remains in serious, but stable condition, according to a statement from his sister released Tuesday from the Senate Democrats office.

His sister, Denise Mahoney, characterizes Maynard’s injury as non-life threatening and said he is “resting comfortably with family and friend by his side.”

Maynard, 52, was initially taken to Westerly Hospital and later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital after he fell from an outside staircase at his Grandview Park home and landed on the sidewalk below at 2:39 a.m. Monday.

Police said a neighbor witnessed Maynard’s fall from “a significant height” and called police. The staircase leads to the second floor of the home that Maynard has rented the past several years. Police said Maynard was carrying an object up the stairs at the time.

“First, our family would like to thank the outpouring of support we've received in the way of thoughts and prayers from so many friends around Connecticut,” Mahoney said in the statement. “Additionally, the team of doctors and nurses at Rhode Island Hospital have been exemplary in their service.”

Mahoney asked that Maynard’s privacy be respected and did not go into any detail about the injury.
