A British Invasion in Guilford this Summer

    Satisfaction

A four pack of fantastic concerts is coming to the Guilford Green this summer. While the next concert to grace the Green centers on the American (and Latin American) jazz style, things will take a decidedly British turn as the season proceeds.

Bring a picnic and get ready to enjoy a great evening of jazz on the Guilford Green on Sunday, July 27 at 6 p.m. The Shoreline Jazz Collective, with director Jim Antonucci and trumpeter Michael Philip Mossman, offers a free outdoor concert beginning with two student groups and ending with the Shoreline Jazz Collective Big Band, a dedicated group of professionals from the tri-state area (see "Mossman Joins Jazz Collective Lineup" on page 8 for full details).

The August forecast is calling for a British Invasion of Guilford. First up will Beatles tribute band Cast of Beatlemania on Sunday, Aug. 3 from 6:30 to

    8 p.m. on the Green.

Probably the most celebrated of rock groups, The Beatles dominated rock music from the early 1960s until they formally disbanded in 1970.

The Cast of Beatlemania has established its own credibility over the years. Group manager Carlo Cantamessa plays rhythm guitar and has been performing for 30-plus years as lead vocal, both nationally and internationally, and easily convinces audiences everywhere that he is John Lennon.

Lenie Colacino, who was in the original Broadway production of Beatlemania, plays Paul, naturally capturing McCartney's vocal range and tone. George is played by James Filgate on lead guitar and lead vocal. For 13 years this dedicated musician has been touted as the heart of the show. When he is not touring with the group he runs a very successful music school. For the past seven years, John Delgado has played Ringo on drums.

Rounding out the team is Musical Director Mark Templeton, who performs on multi-keyboards and percussion. He is solely responsible for the orchestra sound and arrangements in the show.

"This is really a group not to miss," said Guilford Park & Recreation Director Rick Maynard.

Next up on the concert docket is the The Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction on the Green Sunday, Aug. 17 from 6:30 to

    8 p.m.

Satisfaction has been touring since 2001 with more than 2,000 performance dates to its credit. It is the only full-time touring show of its kind in the world. In 2005 the group became the first-ever Rolling Stones show on the Las Vegas strip as part of the award-winning show "Legends in Concert."

"Each of these groups is very special, and these concerts are going to be great. We hope everyone comes out to enjoy the shows," said Maynard.

Finishing up the summer season on the Green on Sunday, Aug. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. is Who's Next, a look-alike,

sound-alike tribute show of The Who. Who's Next has been performing nationally since 1999.

For each concert, guests are encouraged to bring picnic suppers to the Green, but alcohol is prohibited on town property. Rain site for all shows will be the Community Center.

"The British invaded Guilford 375 years ago and stayed, so we thought it would be fitting that their music invade our concert series on this our 375th anniversary year," said Maynard.
