Salvation Army seeks turkey donations by Wednesday

Norwich - The Norwich Salvation Army hopes supporters will shop early for Thanksgiving and donate to the agency's planned Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 21 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

The Salvation Army, displaced by an Aug. 24 fire that damaged the agency's Main Street building, decided in October to host a Thanksgiving meal rather than distribute food baskets to local needy families.

The Salvation Army is looking for donations of 20 turkeys no later than Wednesday for the dinner, Captain Jerry Uttley said. Turkeys can be brought to the Salvation Army's temporary headquarters at the United Congregational Church, 87 Broadway, from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Other local churches will assist and provide side dishes and other supplies.
