Corrected: Waterford registrars will conduct audit of votes in District 3

Editor's note: This corrects an earlier version of this article.

Waterford — The registrars of voters are scheduled to audit District 3 votes in the recent statewide elections for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and comptroller at 9 a.m. on Nov. 19.

District 3 voting takes place at Oswegatchie School. The audit is scheduled to take place at Town Hall.

State law mandates post-election hand count audits in 10 percent of voting districts randomly selected across the state, according to the Secretary of the State audit procedure manual. These audits are not recounts.

“The primary purpose of the hand count audit is to assess how well the optical scan voting machines functioned in an actual election and to ensure that votes cast using these machines are counted properly and accurately,” according to the manual.

Districts are chosen for audit through a blind selection process by the office of the Secretary of the State.
