Connecticut College receives grants to restore collections

Two grants recently awarded to Connecticut College will support the restoration and preservation of two rare historic collections.

The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation has awarded the college $14,000 to digitize a collection of rare sheet music from the 1800s through the early 1900s. Once preserved, the collection will be made fully accessible through open access, which will encourage multidisciplinary collaboration at Connecticut College and at other colleges and universities.

A $3,000 grant from the William and Alice Mortensen Foundation will support the preservation of a special collection of rare correspondences between Homer S. Curtis - a lieutenant during the Civil War - and his family and friends in Warren, Conn. The majority of the letters date from the time of Curtis's enlistment in the Union army between August 1862 and June 1865.
