    Searching for fairy treasure

A fairy locket was hidden in the Dragon’s Lair, one of 16 “fairy venues” at the Avery-Copp House’s Halloween Fairy Tea Oct. 22

Local freelance photographer Jane Loeser Clukay captured some of the “fairy venues” at the Avery-Copp House’s Halloween Fairy Tea Oct. 22.

“It was so charming,” she said. She grew up in Waterford and now lives in Groton but had never visited the house, which she said was “chock full of one-of-a-kind antiques” from a Thomas Edison phonograph to china sets.

After a tour of the house, children in costume searched for items in 16 fairy dioramas, from a witch’s pets in her kitchen to a locket in the dragon’s lair.

They learned how to make corn husk dolls and had tea in the parlor, where there were a variety of games from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The Avery-Copp House will also be holding a suffragette tea and lecture Saturday from 1-3 p.m. Reservations are required for $20. For more information and other events, visit the website.
