Heavy rains prompt closure of some Stonington shellfishing areas

Stonington — The heavy rainfall Friday prompted the town to temporarily close some shellfishing areas.
Stonington Shellfish Commission Chairman Donald L. Murphy announced Friday evening that Area A and Outer Quiambaug Cove have been closed to the harvesting of clams, oysters and mussels. They will remain closed for at least seven days.
