THEIR SITUATION: These are the kids who are "aging out" of DCF, many heading toward high school graduation, in their first apartments or starting college. They typically have nothing.

WHAT TO GIVE: Their wish lists are usually very basic: "clothes that fit," "cleaning supplies," "something warm." Gift certificates to grocery stores, or restaurants or movies so the kids can go out with their siblings, some of whom are also in DCF care.  Hoodies are always a great choice, as are gloves and scarves. Basic things for an apartment also are welcome, especially decorative things like nice candles, mugs sets or a colorful bedroom quilt. Monetary donations are put toward a shopping trip before Christmas put together by the social workers.
