Lyme-Old Lyme schools budget hearing to be held Monday

Old Lyme — The Lyme-Old Lyme Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the 2018-19 proposed schools budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the Board of Education Conference Room at Center School, 49 Lyme St.

The school board last month adopted a 2018-19 budget of $34,298,528, a 1.97 percent increase over the current education spending plan.

Lyme-Old Lyme Superintendent Ian Neviaser has said that employee health insurance is a major reason for the increase in next year's budget. The budget continues to adhere to class size guidelines, continues the current academic and extracurricular activities, sufficiently funds the maintenance and repair of buildings and supports the scheduled replacement of technology and equipment, according to a PowerPoint presentation from last month's public forum on the budget.

The 2018-19 budget book is available online at bit.ly/LOL18-19budget.

The anticipated date for the budget referendum is Tuesday, May 8, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Lyme Town Hall and Cross Lane Firehouse in Old Lyme.
