Donahue qualifies for state campaign financing

Chris Donahue of Pawcatuck, one of the two candidates for the Democratic nomination to run for the 43rd District state House seat, has announced that he has qualified for public campaign financing through the state’s Citizens’ Election Program.

Donahue said he is “humbled and profoundly grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response to my candidacy” that he said enabled him to raise more than $5,600 from more than 155 individual small donors who live in the district, which encompasses Stonington and North Stonington. This qualifies him for $25,000 in state campaign funds.

Donahue is being challenged for the nomination by Stonington Selectwoman Kate Rotella of Mystic. The party’s candidate will be chosen at a May 16 convention.

The lone announced Republican candidate is Shaun Mastroianni of Stonington, who also has qualified for funding through the Citizens’ Election Program.
