Montville Lions to raise awareness for cerebral palsy in 12th annual 5K

The Montville Lions Club will hold its 12th annual 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 6, raising awareness for cerebral palsy.

A portion of the proceeds will help 19-year-old Montville High School student Shayla Lombardo-Brown. Brown was born three months premature and diagnosed with severe Spastic Quadriparetic Cerebral Palsy. She has a history of seizure disorder, is largely nonverbal and uses a wheelchair.

The Lions Club and her family said Brown, who has a strong support system at the high school, loves to spend time outside and play with her siblings. Some of the event proceeds will help cover some vital upgrades in Brown's household to improve her day-to-day life.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. at the Camp Oakdale Large Pavilion at 75 Oxoboxo Dam Road, Oakdale. SNERRO Race Timing will officiate the 5K, which will be followed by awards at the pavilion.

More information can be found at www.eventbrite.com (search for Montville), bit.ly/MTLions, the Lions' Facebook page or call Tiffany Williams at (860) 608-8294.
