Salem residents send $14.99 million budget to referendum

Salem — A crowd of about 30 at Wednesday night's town meeting voted unanimously to send the 2018-19 budget to referendum next week.

Residents eligible to vote will be able to approve or reject the $14,989,478 budget from 6 a.m.to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall, 270 Hartford Road.

The final budget proposal reflected updated health insurance cost projections for the general government and updated Board of Education budget, a total of a $25,138 decrease from the budget presented at the public hearing in April.

The proposed budget is a 0.53 percent decrease from the 2017-18 budget.

Wednesday's meeting also was the town's 200th town meeting. Plans for the town's bicentennial celebration next year are in progress.
