    Crash on Gold Star Highway sends moped driver to the hospital

    Groton — A crash between a moped and box truck occurred late Tuesday morning on the Gold Star Highway (Route 184).

    The crash injured the moped operator, who was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, and closed a section of the highway for two hours, according to the Town of Groton Police Department.  

    The Gold Star Highway was closed between North Road and Candlewood Road from approximately 10:50 a.m. to 1:06 p.m., and members of the Groton Police Department, Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, Groton Ambulance and medics from Lawrence + Memorial were the first to respond to the scene, police said.

    The crash is under investigation and the Regional Crash Investigation Team was called in to assist with the crash reconstruction. Officers from the Stonington and Ledyard police departments also assisted Groton officers with crash scene processing.
