Several members of the Fitch High School boys’ basketball team took to the yards of two area homes on June 14 to help with spring cleaning and landscaping work to support Always Home.

The Mystic-based housing services organization focused cleanup efforts on two of its properties in Groton, and the students assisted with pulling weeds, clipping hedges, mowing yards and other tasks.

Participating players included Roddy Rodriguez, Ethan Ortega, Fuquan Chapman, DJ Beaudet, Adriel Atad, Qasim Brown, Seamus Greaves and coach Charles Silvan. Volunteers Rob Richards, Jack Cannon and Pam Johnstone assisted in the cleanup.

“It takes a team to prevent family homelessness,” executive director Jeff Anderson said. “Volunteers play an important role in our organization, enhancing our ability to get things done. Having Rob, Jack, Pam, Coach Silvan and Fitch’s basketball team on our home court helped us tremendously.”
