The Niantic Rotary, Niantic Lions Club and United Cerebral Palsy of Eastern Connecticut each contributed $1,000 for two foldable accessible beach chairs for the town of East Lyme.

The chairs will be located at Hole-in-the-Wall and McCook’s beaches. They will allow those who require a wheelchair to access both the beaches and the water at each site.

“We’re very happy to present this to the community so that many more of our citizens can access not only the sand, but also get in the water,” James Lombardo, the Niantic Rotary Club president, said.

He noted that the project fits in well with the community’s efforts to make all public places in East Lyme more accessible, including an initiative to bring a Miracle Field to town.

To check out a chair, people should see a Parks and Recreation staff member and show identification. The chairs are available every day that a life guard is on duty.
